What is affiliate marketing?
One of the most talked about ways to make money is none other than affiliate marketing.
So What is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate Marketing is a way to make money without having to purchase, store, or in anyway ship a product in order to make money. Intriguing idea isn’t it? First off don’t quit your day job to try this out. This should be used, if at all, as a supplemental income. Don’t count on this to make you rich. Sure there are some who do make a good living at it, but the reality is most people/businesses barely make any money doing affiliate marketing.
The first thing you need to understand about affiliate marketing is that this is not a new concept, not even close! This concept has been around since the early days of the internet. Today with everyone online (mobile mostly) we are bombarded with ads for products no matter where we turn. In fact it has gotten so bad that most people are instinctively closing ads as soon as they pop up on their screens because they are simply tired of being sold to.
So how can you make money as an affiliate (someone who has agreed to promote an affiliate product or website)? You will need to create a way online for the ads to not seem so disruptive to the viewer of your website. The most common way is to create a niche blog site and promote the hell out of that affiliate you are trying to make money off of. You could do this with clickable banner ads in the posting or hyperlinks or a combination of both.
Here’s the problem:
- It takes time to turn your blog into an authority site that others including Google will like and trust to help generate traffic to it. This will not be an overnight success. Try more like 6 months or more working at it with constant posts.
- Lately every website claims to be an expert on something. You will have to do more than just post to stand out from the crowd to get the site traffic you need to make money as an affiliate.
- The cost of promotions. You also need to pay to advertise to get people to your site. Where you choose to advertise, when and how much you want to spend can all make a difference. Even still there is no guarantee of success.
How to get started:
Our recommendation is this, if you want to become an affiliate find a way to occasionally work in the ads on your site. Make sure your site fits the niche affiliate program you have decided to get involved in. By doing it this way you will be somewhat familiar with the product you are promoting which will make it easier for you to write about it.
If you are interested in giving this a go here are some legitimate links to many of the big affiliate marketing sites where you can join for free, view affiliate programs, learn about them and then request permission to promote their products/services.
For the record, we do not participate in any of these programs, but have tried many of them in the past. We do not get paid for referring you to any of these affiliate marketing links we have provided.
